ROG Rapture GT-AX11000 Router Quick Review: BEST. ROUTER. EVER.

The ROG Rapture GT-AX11000 is the flagship router from ASUS’ Republic of Gamers line that promises the best connectivity and customization for your home system. It is one of the first routers to offer Wifi6/ 802.11AX standard. Even if there aren’t much devices available in the market yet to take advantage, it is good to know that you’re picking up a future proofed device. After all, no one really changes their routers quite often.

The Wifi 6 standard aims to bridge all the shortcomings that the Wifi5/802.11AC had, including range and consistency.

No laptops can support Wifi6 yet though but it’s good to know that this is future proofed. Our Galaxy S10 supports the function though and was automatically detected as Wifi6.

DESIGN

In terms of design, the ROG Rapture GT-AX11000 is the coolest looking router you’ll ever see in the market. With it’s 8 antennas, it seems more battle ready than any of your peripherals or hardware will ever look like. These 8 antennas ensure the strongest connections possible for very large homes.

Out of the box, the antennas are not attached to the main box itself but assembly is quite a breeze. You basically just have to screw in each of the RPSMA connectors and you’re good to go. Just make sure they’re tightly connected so you can keep the antennas straight up.

Underneath, the device features a mesh type design for enough airflow so it doesn’t overheat given that it will be turned on 24/7.

Connectivity

In terms of i/o, the ROG Rapture GT-AX11000 features a decent amount of ports. We say decent because it’s not the most we’ve seen on a router, but definitely more than you’ll need for a home system.

It has 4x RJ45 Gigabit LAN Ports, 1x RJ45 Gigabit WAN, 2 USB 3.1 Gen1 Ports (for updates and NAS connectivity), 1 more Ethernet port that is 2.5GE (Over 2x faster than regular gigabity ports) and finally 1 Power adapter port.

On the front side, you have 3 1 push buttons for access to WIFI toggle, WPS and Boost mode.

At the front of the device, you have your LED indicators for each connectivity option.

FEATURES

The ROG Rapture GT-AX11000 is a router that is intended for the best gaming experience by ensuring the consistent and reliable connection. It features triple level connection via its software, a boost mode and a private network.

The web settings is also quite extensive and you can control almost every aspect of the router, it’s connections, it’s user control and more!

You can even access these settings via a phone app.

And oh, in true ROG Fashion, the ROG Rapture GT-AX11000 features RGB AURA Sync so that it syncs with the rgb ecosystem of your ROG products.

The default color is red so you’ll have to toggle that in ASUS Armoury crate to control the lighting.

Experience

We were able to test the ROG GT-AX11000 for over a month and we set up 4 different Wifi access in a 120sqm living space. 2 were for dedicated to 2 different gaming PCs, 1 was dedicated for a live stream PC and the last one was for guest access. Priority was given to the Livestream PC, then the 2 gaming PC and last for the guests. This was to ensure that bandwidth and connectivity was strongest and uniterrupted for the main activities, and secondary only for the guests.

In terms of speeds, the theoretical speed of the GT-AX11000 is 11000Mbps, exactly what is was named after. However, we are not able to get that speed here in the Philippines due to poor telco service. We were using a 100MBps connection and while we were able to consistenly max out the speed on all 4 different usages without any lag or connection issues, we feel that we weren’t able to maximize the product.

In terms of local network transfers though, the GT-AX11000 really shined bright. We transferred 50GB files to and from connected devices and the speed was over 800MB/s at any given time over wired connections, but fell below the 300 mark when over Wifi connectivity.

To date, we have our NAS attached to the router and anyone at our studio can just transfer these files when needed without ease. It has really changed the way we transferred files to and from devices, allowing us to sort of ignore our hard drives and usbs over the course of testing.

Verdict

While the router offered the best of the best when it comes to what anyone needs routers for, it also offers a few pluses here and there to make lives and gaming much easier. With a lot of intuitve settings and controls, you can ensure that your priority activities are second to none and consistently connected.

The price of the router is around PHP25,000, however, and this may be a downer for some because you’ll already be able to buy 3 different routers for a mesh connection. It’s the price you have to pay for being one of the first to adopt the newest technologies and offer an all-in-one package but if you’re hell-bent on looking for the single “BEST WIRELESS ROUTER” –

This is the best router your money can buy. Period.

We give it 4 stars out of 5.
